mithrohello niphree08:34
mithroyou there?08:34
niphreehello mithro08:42
mithrodo you have about 45 minutes?08:42
niphreeyes - probably even more08:44
mithrookay08:44
mithroJLP/llnz pointed me to the IRC logs08:44
mithroI had a quick look at the website they pointed me to08:45
mithroand it's look pretty good08:45
mithroniphree: but I can't examine any of the code unless you commit it08:45
niphreeok08:46
niphreemithro: I'll do this now08:46
mithroniphree: okay08:46
mithroniphree: I think we need to work on getting you to commit at least every day you do some work08:46
mithroit looks like you have been doing some good work but because you haven't been committing it, we didn't really know08:47
niphreemithro: :/ I always forget to commit :/08:47
mithroniphree: once you get use to it, you'll never remeber how you did without it08:48
mithroniphree: don't be afraid to commit things which dont work08:53
* mithro does it all the time :P08:54
niphree:D08:54
mithroniphree: it is also about getting feedback08:56
mithrowhich can really save you hours of being frustrated08:57

mithroniphree: okay, next I need a status report09:00
niphreemithro: commited - short comment, but I have more inside code09:00
mithroniphree: that comment looks fine09:00
mithrojust fetching the code now09:01
niphreemithro: status on email or here on irc ?09:01
mithroniphree: btw, you might want to put the username/password in a config file09:01
niphreemithro: ok :D09:03
mithroniphree: currently everyone one in the world now has database server's password :P09:03
mithroan email status report (or post it on your blog)09:04
niphreemithro: eee... it's my friend database server - he want be mad at me :D09:04
mithroniphree: I would get him to change the password ASAP :)09:05
mithrodon't worry, we have all accidently done that before09:05
mithroniphree: so what I would like in the status report09:07
mithro 1. what you have done so far09:07
mithro 2. How that compares to your midterm goals09:07
mithro 3. What you plan to do next09:07
mithro 4. A "self evaluation" on your progress09:08
mithroniphree: that seem okay?09:10
mithroniphree: your code looks pretty good09:11
niphreemithro: ok, I'll use email I have send you before - and mark all done/todo in this list and some comment uder this list.09:11
niphreemithro: thx :)09:12
mithroniphree: what length do you use for tabstops?09:12
mithroniphree: could you include in your status report some "reflection" on how you personally think you are doing09:16
niphreemithro: lenght: 3 spaces (I'm not sure about this - I'm trying to check in my editor but couldn't find it :/)09:16
niphreemithro: ok09:16
mithroand some stuff on what you plan to do next would also be good09:17
mithroniphree: are you on the mailing lists?09:19
niphreemithro: yes09:20
mithroniphree: have you seen the "Another idea about web site structure." thread?09:20
niphreemithro: I have read some mails in it09:23
niphreemithro: but I like current layout :]09:23
mithroniphree: do you think you could comment on how the metaserver might fit with the new layout discussed?09:24
mithroniphree: also your thoughts on the current website would be appricated09:24
niphreemithro: ok, if I think about something interesting I'll write this09:26
mithroniphree: As you are fairly new to the project, it can be really helpful to get your thoughts on it09:27
niphreemithro: ok :]09:28
mithroniphree: so do you have any questions?09:31
mithroor need any help with anything?09:31
niphreeI'm thinking about what to do next09:31
niphreeI know I have some bugs to fix09:31
niphreebut I don't know what choose to do next ...09:32
niphreeRSS feed (easier) or Starmap (for starmap I need to connect to game server)09:35
mithrothe back connect stuff to the game server is probably pretty useful09:36
mithrobut it will be a quite a bit of work09:37
niphreeso now I have: easy vs interesting ;)09:38
mithroyou could work on both at the same time if you wanted09:39
niphreemithro: ok :]09:40
mithroit's pretty normal for OSS developers to have multiple "balls in the air"09:41
niphreemithro: hmm.. it's also normal for most students ;)09:43
mithroniphree: yeah :P09:43
niphreek - so I'll try to do both of them ;)09:44
* mithro notes that a large number of students are also OSS developers09:44
mithroniphree: so do you think you could get me that status report ASAP so I can do your mid-term evaluation?09:44
niphreemithro: I could send you part of raport now. I have to write some comment under it and it could take me some time :/09:46
mithroniphree: well, do you think you could send it to me before the end of today (your time?)09:46
mithroI could then read it when I get up tommorrow09:47
niphreemihtro: I should ;)09:47
mithroniphree: okay that would be good09:49
mithroniphree: can we also start meeting every week again?09:49
mithroor even twice weekly if possible? say Tuesday and/or Thursday?09:50
niphreek - but in this week I'm not sure if I'll be online on thursday - I'll probably know on wednesday09:52
mithroniphree: I would just like to make sure that we have regular meetings09:55
niphreemithro: k, I'll try this time09:56
mithroniphree: don't forget to update the bug/todo trackers too09:57
mithrohttps://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=browse&group_id=132078&atid=82972409:57
tpb<http://ln-s.net/iPB> (at sourceforge.net)09:57
mithroso do you want to plan an official meeting on Tuesday?09:57
niphreetuesday is ok09:58
mithrosay about 3 or 4pm?09:58
niphree12:00 - 16:00 - I have mitting at 17:0009:59
mithrolets say 1pm then?10:00
niphreeok :]10:02
mithroniphree: so I'll expect your status report stuff when I get up tommorrow?10:03
mithroit about 10-14 hours10:03
niphreemithro: ok :D10:04
mithroniphree: keep up the good work~10:05
mithros/~/!10:05
niphreemithro: ok! :]10:06
DystopicFromithro: ping?10:35
mithroDystopicFro: pong?10:51
DystopicFromithro: byah, should have waited a minute longer. Just have some questions about tpserver-py and how it evaluates the TPCL code, if I don't see you later I'll post an email12:05
mithroDystopicFro: okay12:15
mithroDystopicFro: the two places to look are12:16
mithrohttp://www.thousandparsec.net/tp/dev/documents/ncl.php#tips12:17
tpb<http://ln-s.net/iPe> (at www.thousandparsec.net)12:17
mithrotpserver-py/tp/server/bases$ more Design.py12:18
DystopicFrowell, I mean in that I've been checking out Design.py12:18
DystopicFroand it seems that the TPCL code written for tpserver-cpp won't work with the python server12:19
DystopicFrosince the python server never defines the designType.-blah- procedure12:19
mithrocan you give an example?12:20
DystopicFroso, for the current MTSec code, "(designType.num-ammo design)" is used to access the num-ammo property12:22
DystopicFroand the cpp server creates the designType.-blah- procedure when it processes a design12:22
mithro(lambda (design)12:23
mithro(if (> (designtype.firepower design) 0)12:23
mithro0 100))12:23
mithroyou mean like that?12:23
DystopicFroright, those sorts of expressions12:24
mithroit should work12:25
mithroscheme.environment.defineVariable(scheme.symbol.Symbol('design'), design, i.get_environment())12:25
mithroi.install_function('designtype.'+property.name, t)12:26
DystopicFroAh, ok, I didn't pick it up because I just grepped for designType12:27
mithrothe correct case is designtype12:27
DystopicFrowell, someone is going to have to tell llnz that, since aren't symbols case-sensitive in scheme?12:28
mithrodunno :P12:29
mithrohttp://www.thousandparsec.net/tp/dev/documents/ncl.php#tips12:29
tpb<http://ln-s.net/iPe> (at www.thousandparsec.net)12:29
DystopicFrokk, that sets my mind at ease now. Much easier to work with the scheme in python too, llnz has to jumpt through quite a few hoops to get it working in tpserver-cpp12:30
DystopicFroGood, I should be able to get evaluation of the TPCL code up and running on monday or tuesday, then, and provide immediate feedback from within the RDE12:31
DystopicFrothanks for the help mithro12:32
mithroDystopicFro: thats okay12:33
mithroDystopicFro: it is fairly slow however :/12:35
mithroI hope to eventually wrap the C scheme libraries12:36
mithroshould be fast enough for your needs however12:37
