jsmillerHi all.  Peeking in for a bit.17:50
jsmillerI'm noticing that some of people reprojecting textures onto planetary disks are using PovRay -- a free ray tracing engine.  It's possible that might be a good basic engine, if I don't stick with a simple hand-rolled reprojector.  It's probably best to give the simple hand-rolled approach another try before picking up the big toolset.17:54

Alklomionis that what you said?20:05
mithroyes20:06
mithroyou need to do a fresh checkout20:06
mithroand then make a small change and see if it works20:06
mithroAlklomion: has there been any other progress?20:14
Alklomionnot since... wednesday?20:14
mithrookay20:19
mithroYou have gotten so far along, it would be really sad to not see you finish it20:20
AlklomionYeah, Week four is a bad week for assignments :(20:23
AlklomionI'm doing another programming assignment for Chris for another subject currently, can't wait til that's out the way20:23
mithrookay20:24
AlklomionInteresting - cvs is trying to send j4me as a text/ascii format20:25
CIA-33alklomion /tmp/xiiqMDoJ5H/qvqiESV75x-midp * ra631892d5346 /src/net/thousandparsec/util/J4ME.jar: via git-CVS emulator20:29

Alklomionthe images?20:38
Alklomionthey weren't working on my end for some reason20:38
mithroyeah - it's probably the stupid CVS line ending conversion20:38
mithrotim@vaio:~/oss/tp/libtpproto-java$ file `find -name *.png`20:39

mithrohey nash20:41
Alklomionhave you got a link to that git thing ?20:41
mithrohttp://code.google.com/p/msysgit/20:42
tpbTitle: msysgit - Google Code (at code.google.com)20:42
mithroit's not as easy to use as TortoiseCVS but it's much more reliable20:42
Alklomionwhich one am I getting? I'm assuming i don't want to 'hack' on git?20:44
mithroyes you want the first download button20:44
AlklomionOk, so how do i use this tool? Do I need to create a repository, or something else?20:54
mithroAlklomion: start up the git-gui20:58
mithroand checkout the repository using git+ssh://[email protected]/git/libtpproto-java.git20:58
mithroAlklomion: can you try doing a fresh checkout with cvs and see if those files are still corrupted?21:01
Alklomionjar file is 1kb again21:03
Alklomioni click git gui, it comes to a welcome style screen with three options, new, open, clone21:06
mithroAlklomion: after a fresh checkout?21:06
mithroAlklomion: you want "clone"21:06
Alklomionok so the url is that statement and then i just set a folder i want to put it in to21:07
mithroyes21:08
Alklomionworking.. please wait21:08
Alklomionseems to be hanging at this point21:09
mithrojust trying to reproduce here21:14

mithrodid you choose plink or ssh?21:16
Alklomionssh, reinstalling21:16
AlklomionI don't have plink either, only pageant21:18
mithrocan you install the full putty pack?21:18
mithro"A Windows installer for everything except puttytel"21:19
AlklomionI just downloaded the plink.exe from putty, I already have other parts21:21
Alklomionpageant gen and putty21:21
mithrookay21:21
mithroso you will have to select plink for you ssh key to work21:22
*** Erroneous has quit IRC21:22
Alklomionok - it's downloading21:25
mithroyay!21:26
mithroonce it has downloaded you probably want to create a shortcut on your desktop21:27
Alklomionshould the main interface be populated at this point?21:27
mithrowhile that is working21:27
mithrocan you right click on the png file21:27
mithroand go to the "CVS" tab21:28
mithroand tell me what it says under "Fiile format: "21:28
Alklomionin the git client? I don't think it worked21:28
mithroas I just did a checkout with TortoiseCVS and it worked file21:28
mithroAlklomion: no in explorer21:28
Alklomioncan't see a file format option21:30
mithroon the CVS tab?21:31
mithrocan you take a screenshot?21:31

tpb<http://ln-s.net/2+cO> (at img386.imageshack.us)21:32
mithrooh21:33
mithroright click on the file21:34
mithrogo properties21:34
mithrothen go to the cvs tab21:34
Alklomiontext/ascii21:35
mithroand you just did a fresh checkout right?21:35
AlklomionI've no idea why it keeps putting it in that format either21:35
Alklomionyep21:35
mithrohrm...21:36
mithroWTF, I just did a fresh checkout using tortoisecvs and it's showing as binary here21:36
Alklomion*chuckle*21:36
mithrookay21:37
mithrocan you remove every local version you have21:37
mithrothen21:37
mithrodo a fresh checkout into a totally different directory21:38
mithroon the git front21:38
mithroyou should have three panels, a red one, a green one and a yellow one21:38
mithrogo to the "branch" menu and click create21:38
mithrothen click on the "Match Tracking Branch Name" in the "Branch Name box"21:39
mithroin the Starting Revision box21:39
mithroclick the "tracking Branch"21:39
mithroand select origin/master21:39
mithrothen click create21:39
mithroAlklomion: that all okay?21:41
mithroJLafont: ping?21:41
Alklomionmithro: done, should i see anything change?21:43
mithronot quite yet21:43
mithrothen go21:43
mithroBranch -> CHeckout21:44
mithroand select the midp branch and click checkout21:44
Alklomionso change to tracking branch then origin/midp?21:44
mithrono21:44
Alklomionthere's no midp, only master21:45
mithrodid you just create the branch as I mentioned above?21:45
Alklomionyep21:45
mithrooh wait21:45
Alklomionneeded to name it too?21:45
mithro"and select origin/master" should have read "and select origin/midp"21:45
mithro:/21:45
mithrobtw - you only have to do this once21:46
Alklomionchecked out midp and current branch: midp21:46
Alklomionand whatever git checked out, it checked them out correctly21:46
Alklomionlogo and placeholder.png are fine.. and21:47
Alklomionj4me jar is correct21:47
mithrookay21:47
mithroso now make a change to the readme file21:47
mithrothen go back to the git-gui and press F521:47
mithroyou should now need "README" in the red box21:48
Alklomionyep21:49
mithrois you select the README21:49
mithroyou should see a diff in the yellow box21:49
mithroright?21:49
Alklomionyep21:50
Alklomionafter the setup, this actually seems nicer than tortoise :)21:50
mithrookay, now right click on the stuff in the yellow box and do "stage hunk for commit"21:50
mithroand it should now have moved to the green box21:51
Alklomionyep21:51
mithroNow you type a commit message into the "Commit message box"21:51
mithroand then click the commit button21:51
Alklomionyep21:52
mithrounlike tortoise, committing is a local operation, we don't see the change until you click the "push" button, you can commit a whole bunch of stuff locally before pushing21:52
mithrogit-gui is kind of like a "review" process21:53
mithroit lets you see what you have changed21:53
Alklomionaah21:53
mithroand select only specific bits for commit21:54
mithrosay for example you accidently made a change to README21:55
mithroyou can go to the21:55
mithroCommit->Revert Changes21:55
mithroto restore back to the last committed version21:55
mithromake sense?21:56
mithrodid you want to try pushing?21:56
Alklomionsure21:56
Alklomionso If i go to commit -> revert changes, all changes are reverted?21:57
mithroI think only the selected file will be reverted21:59
mithroonce you have committed something it's a little harder21:59
mithroyou have to go "Repository -> Visulize midp's History"22:00
mithrowhich brings up a local version of git-web like tool22:00
CIA-33Brendan libtpproto-java-midp * rad2e7ebde101 /README: Readme changed to test the git-ui client for windows.22:03
mithroyay!22:04
AlklomionI should head off, I've got some uni work to get out of the way, then I might get to do some project work over the weeked, woo22:21
Alklomionsee ya22:21
