cr1901_modern_florent_: This is likely a silly question, but why is there a litex-boards repo in addition to board definitions directly in litex repo?04:48
_florent_cr1901_modern: Hi, this is a good question in fact and I'm also considering removing the boards definitions directly in LiteX:07:34
_florent_The initial aim with LiteX-Boards was to be more permissive and have boards contributed/maintained by users (I feared it would have been to much work to do the maintenance), so I wanted to keep the boards definitions in LiteX as "official".07:34
cr1901_modernAhhh07:35
_florent_But maintaining LiteX-Boards seems do be doable and I've been able to maintain/update all boards platforms/targets when new features are added to LiteX, so that's why I considering only keeping LiteX-Boards.07:35
cr1901_modernWell, I gotta admit... having not really used LiteX much since late 2018... litex-boards has made "build your own SoC" A LOT faster/streamlined.07:35
cr1901_modernI'm building one now for orangecrab... found a minor issue w/ picorv32, I'll send a PR to fix it after I confirm things work :)07:36
cr1901_modernIs it still possible to have your main application run from ROM?07:39
cr1901_modernlike execute-in-place SPI flash07:39
cr1901_modernI can see the BIOS supports XIP still07:40
_florent_Thanks for the feedback. In fact most of application projects (Linux-on-LiteX-VexRiscv, Linux-on-LiteX-Rocket, etc..) and benches in LiteDRAM/LitePCIe/LiteSDCard, etc... are directly reusing definitions from LiteX-Boards so it makes even more sense to only keep definitions there. That's something I was planning recently but wanted to do the 2020.12 release first07:40
_florent_cr1901_modern: yes it's still possible, you can have a look at the iCEBreaker/Fomu target for this (since it's mandatory for these boards that don't have enough blockrams for the ROM)07:41
cr1901_modernAck, thanks07:42
cr1901_modern_florent_: https://github.com/enjoy-digital/litex/pull/75408:25
cr1901_modernI'm going to bed now lol08:25
_florent_Thanks cr1901_modern, have a good night :)08:32
