automatical | Hey all, I'm currently working with an opsis and I'm wondering if anyone could point me in right direction. I've got the board routing video to both an external hdmi device and via usb to mplayer, but for some reason - I can'get get vlc, or ffmpeg to display/capture video from the advice. Any advice? I'm following the information at: https://github.com/timvideos/HDMI2USB/wiki/Viewing | 21:22 |

CarlFK | automatical: what do you mean "via usb to mplayer" ? | 21:22 |
CarlFK | oh wait, mplayer works, vlc does not? | 21:23 |
automatical | yea | 21:23 |
automatical | sorry, should have just said that :) | 21:23 |
CarlFK | well.. does it really matter? | 21:23 |
automatical | I also can't get ffmpeg to work, which is my end goal | 21:24 |
CarlFK | I've always use gstreamer | 21:24 |
automatical | I figured if I could figure out why vlc wasn't working, I might also figure out the ffmpeg issue | 21:24 |
automatical | ah | 21:24 |
automatical | gstreamer would be fine, effectively anything I can use to send video over a socket would be enough | 21:24 |
CarlFK | ok, welcome to my mess. here is a failed attempt at mocking up a simple version of the mixing system | 21:26 |

CarlFK | core server - normally takes many ins, mixes, ans sends mixed stream to file sink client | 21:27 |
automatical | thanks, I'll have a look :) | 21:27 |
CarlFK | but that doesn't work. which is fine, I was just trying to make it easier to debug client problem | 21:27 |
CarlFK | if you can get what I was trying to do... then the real client use may make sense: | 21:28 |

automatical | yea, i've got a rough idea - If I can get that to work for this it would be ideal :) | 21:30 |
automatical | never messed with gstreamer for these things tbh | 21:30 |
CarlFK | what do you mean by "send video over a socket" ? | 21:31 |
automatical | just over the network somehow | 21:31 |
automatical | my initial plan was to use ffserver | 21:31 |
CarlFK | is this for live streaming? | 21:39 |
automatical | mainly for video capture, but we're hoping we can do streaming too | 21:39 |
automatical | we've normally used dvswitch in the past, so looking to use a similar workflow | 21:39 |

CarlFK | pfft - there you go. | 21:40 |
automatical | potentially using voctomix | 21:40 |
CarlFK | hot of the press, the main vocto dev. | 21:40 |
automatical | awesome, didn't realise that someone had done a talk on it | 21:40 |
automatical | yea | 21:40 |
automatical | a video on vocto, recorded with vocto :) | 21:40 |
CarlFK | I think he did that about 24 hours ago | 21:41 |
automatical | yea, the c3voc workflow is really quick | 21:41 |

CarlFK | thats your best bet for getting something you can see and click on | 21:42 |
automatical | cool, thanks | 21:42 |
automatical | CarlFK: thanks for your help on this tonight - I've now managed to get video recording using gstreamer, which is awesome | 21:57 |
CarlFK | yay! | 21:57 |
automatical | although being sensible - I need to head off to bed now, but I'll be back at this tomorrow hopefully :) | 21:58 |
CarlFK | I'm here most of the time | 21:58 |
automatical | awesome, thanks | 21:58 |
