aps-sidsHi mithro, CarlFK , I'm happy to be working with timvideos this summer :)00:09
mithroaps-sids: we are really happy to have you on board!00:10
mithroaps-sids: I recommend creating a Google Calendar which you share publicly (or atleast with your mentor + org admins) and dump your timeline / other commitments into00:10
aps-sidssure, will do.00:11
mithrothat goes for other students too! tariq786 CARAM00:11
CARAMsounds good :)00:12
mithroHi CARAM00:12
CARAMheya!00:12
mithroCARAM: sorry we didn't get around to giving you as much feedback as we wanted to on your proposal00:13
CARAMmithro: no worries :)00:14
mithroCARAM: it does mean we should probably work a little bit more on making sure everything is good before you start your project00:14
*** ldlework has joined #timvideos00:15
CARAMalright, that sounds fine to me.00:16
mithroCARAM: you'll probably want to work reasonably closely with aps-sids too00:16
mithroaps-sids is working on porting flumotion to gstreamer-1.x API00:17
aps-sidsHello CARAM , which project are you going to work on?00:18
CARAMI'm on the 'Dockerizing' project :)00:19
CARAMNice to meet you.00:19
mithroCARAM: one part which is Dockerizing flumotion00:19
CarlFKaps-sids: hurry up so CARAM can get started! :p00:21
CARAMyep!00:21
CARAMhahha00:21
CarlFK(jk.. there won't be much difference regarding docker)00:21
CARAMyeah, I was going to ask00:21
CARAMis it expected the ported gstreamer will change a lot in terms of interface?00:22
CarlFKideally, no one will notice a thing00:22
CARAMsorry00:22
CARAMflumotion00:22
CarlFKit is currently like a black box that we feed config files and video streams go in and out00:23
CarlFKafter the port, it will still do that00:23
CARAMgreat00:23
CarlFKjust have different apt-get dependencies00:24
CARAMokay, shouldn't be too much of a change on the docker end I don't think00:25
CARAMthe container will just need to include the additional dependencies and updated flumotion00:27
CarlFKyep00:27
CARAMmithro: I'll be a lot more available in around 3 or so hours to chat about the proposal if that works for you?00:35
mithroBTW students, did your acceptance email include the text from http://goo.gl/5JA13G ?00:35

mithroCARAM: I'll probably be busy, but we'll see00:35
mithroCARAM: I'm not your mentor too :)00:35
CARAMmithro: haha yeah I know :) I'll sort it out with Idlework then?00:37
CARAMand that was in my acceptance e-mail00:37
mithroCARAM: great!00:41

CarlFKmithro: I need to point a camera at my atlys board to record the lights, but I am 90% sure I just saw one one one go on for a sec while the display dialog showed 2 displays02:59
mithroCarlFK: we should design a "test rig"03:00
CarlFKmithro: what were you saying about switching the inputs via usb (instead of button presses) ?03:02
mithroCarlFK: when the HDMI2USB board is connected via USB it should appear as both a UVC Camera and a CDC compatible serial port03:03
mithrothe CDC serial port should get status reports when things change03:03
CarlFKah03:03
shenkia mac probably needs a driver for CDC?03:03
mithroand also let you control the matrix and other options03:03
mithroshenki: I think CDC serial port is pretty standard and probably supported without a driver03:04
mithroshenki: no idea how you talk to a serial port on mac though03:04
mithroshenki: if we finish https://github.com/timvideos/HDMI2USB/issues/36 then we can do something smart in the udev rules03:08

CarlFKis there an diagram of the board that has the buttons and lights labeled?03:31
shenkimithro: initially i was building my own, then i used the one from the repo03:32
shenkimithro: in both cases (fpga and fx2) i used the binary from the wiki03:32

cancimithro: if I get around to it, I will check the kernel version this evening. I think, it was a fresh ubuntu 12.04 install running 3.2.0-24.38.07:15
mithroOkay great07:16
cancithe platform was a thinkpad x200s if that's of any interest07:16
canciBtw, I was unable to find a sample test image in the documentation. It might be useful to provide a reference how it should look if everything is running fine. I could have a look on where to put that.07:18
canciConcerning the EDID hack: what is the edid _master_ good for, then? Does it only determine whether to do 1024x768 or 720p ?07:19
canciAnother stupid question would be about your statement that the buttons are not debounced very well. The debounce vhdl code is roughly the level which I believe to be able to read; if I understand it correctly, it samples the input 8 times and passes the output through, if all 8 samples are the same.07:21
canciWhat exactly is the issue with that? Is it sampling too fast compared to the button bounce? Is a sample set of 8 generally insufficient?07:22
mithrocanci: I'm on a x220, so we should be pretty close07:30
mithrocanci: I believe the EDID hack is now only used for 1024x768 verse 720p detection. The EDID hack use to do more.07:31

mithroI'm just installing the 14.7 ISE WebPack11:03
cancimithro: yea, I think both are helpful. I was able to figure out how to use the buttons and leds from the developers guide, but that new document might make it easier11:05
canciinterestingly I think that my test image looked different. In your photograph the gradiens on the bottom right seem to display a different color than those on the top left.11:06
canciMine had those gradients like on the top left, but I notice the color of the gradients changing to the bottom right. I would guess that might be because I used 1024x768 and your image was taken using 720p ?11:08
mithroI'm pretty sure mine was 1024x76811:16
mithrocanci: I haven't gotten around to building the firmware yet, I was using the prebuilt ones11:17
canciSame for me. While testing I used the prebuilt files for both bitstream and hex. I figured it would be better to first have something that works and to make modifications to that from thereon.11:21
mithrocanci: yeah11:22
mithroThe prebuild stuff is a fair bit behind I think11:22
mithrowe really need to embed the commit IDs we built from into the firmware somewhere11:22
