Guest20600hi there... I'm having problems getting the current version of free-orion to run... using Ubuntu 12.04. Is there a way just to extract freeorion to lets say $HOME/freeorion and run it?09:07
GeofftheMediothere's a bunch of stuff put into the linux package to make it more likely to work on more systems09:09
GeofftheMediowhich make it difficult to extract just the binaries09:09
GeofftheMedioyou may need to compile for yourself if the package doesn't work09:10
Guest20600ubuntuusers proposed to use some graphical installer from http://freeorion.psitronic.de/download/nightly/ however the corresponding freeorion version seems to be quite outdated. Is it possible to use this graphical installer and perform an update afterwards?09:11
tpbTitle: Index of /download/nightly (at freeorion.psitronic.de)09:11
GeofftheMediono idea09:11
Guest20600kk..thx... then I guess I'll have to compile it myself ;)09:11
Nagilum_there are a couple of dependencies which make this difficult, but you can try to use the current version as a repository for files you can't find via apt-file09:15
Nagilum_I guess the biggest problem will be boost, they probably have a 0.48 version or so09:17

wmbuRnhi guys. i have problem with freeorion. since i installed propriatory ati display drivers freeorion stoped working corectly. Problem is all letters on main menu become unrecognizable text21:23
GeofftheMedioall I can suggest is installing better drivers...21:23
wmbuRnthose are the "best" possible drivers from ati21:25
wmbuRnwith opensource radeon drivers i could see the menu but cant play the game21:25
GeofftheMediothat's unfortunate... not much I can do to help, though...21:26
wmbuRnso the problem is with drivers? not the problem of how i installed the game.. etc.. etc...21:27
GeofftheMedioIf changing the drivers fixes or causes the display problem, it's seemingly got something to do with the drivers21:28
wmbuRnok, thank you21:30

GeofftheMedio_the FO text rendering engine isn't perfect and probably could be fixed to work with your other drivers21:30
GeofftheMedio_but that's not likely to happen, at least in the short term21:30
