fixItI just did a full recompile and still no luck. I was thinking about it and the only difference from what I am doing now and what I did in the past is that I am trying to do it in a new file that I added HotKeyManager. Is there something else I would need to do possibly visual studio related to get the db options to recognize my class besides include dboptions?00:01

y2E0g'd evening00:15
y2E0FreeOrion numbered releases are available for download for Windows and OSX 10.6:00:17
y2E0so no Linux support anymore? I really can't figure out how to run this thingy on Linux00:17

fixItI can't speak about there being or not being newer releases for linux. But if you go to the forums and post, you can definetly get help setting up Free Orion on Linux.01:03
y2E0does it sound lazy to admit I don't feel like register?01:25
y2E0it just seems a little bit dead especially now with the stop of linux releases :C01:26
fixItNo judgement here. There are a good number of linux users on the forums though that could help, I personally use windows but eventually will be setting it up on linux once I get a new HD.01:36
fixItI wouldn't say that linux builds are stopped, possibly the person who makes them has been busy...there always could be more in the future.01:37
fixItAgain I'm not 100% positive you should consult Geoff once he returns, but from the effort that I've seen put into the code to keep it platform independent. I doubt linux builds are done forever.01:38
y2E0hmm cool. well if it comes down to plain compiling I wouldn't mind get my hands on some source and read my way through it. I don't mind to ask later.01:39
fixItCool. If you do decide to join the forum theres a whole section dedicated to helping troubleshoot compiling problems01:41
GeofftheMediothe guy who used to make the statically linked linux builds isn't doing so anymore, but the cmake build setup stuff is all usable on linux01:50
y2E0i totally have to get started with it. but sounds like i could learn something01:52
GeofftheMediowhat do you mean by "gets added to config.xml" ?01:52
*** y2E0 is now known as yoshigreen01:55
*** yoshigreen is now known as y2E001:56
fixItadding a new entry in config.xml for storing the keys. so i want to store <hotkey><chatwindow>GG::GGK_KP_PLUS GG::MOD_KEY_CTRL</chatwindow></hotkey>01:56
fixItSince I made a new class in the UI filter, HotKeyManager.h HotKeyManager.cpp idk if that may be a reason why dboptions doesnt see it or something?01:57
GeofftheMediowhat you posted should be fine, I think...01:58
GeofftheMediowhat do you mean by dboptions doesn't see it?01:58
fixItWell for whatever reason my config.xml is not being modified, getting the added value. I've done a full clean and compile too. How does dboptions know what files to look through? Since the file I created is new and in a VS filter maybe that is messing something up?01:59
GeofftheMediodid you regenerate config.xml?02:00
GeofftheMediovs filters do nothing02:00
GeofftheMediothey just organize the code in the gui02:00
fixItHow do i regenerate config.xml? I thought compiling made that happen automatically02:00
GeofftheMedio-g or open and close the options menu02:00
GeofftheMediocompiling doesn't know about config.xml02:01
GeofftheMediofreeorion generates it every time options are changed02:01
fixItahhh okay thanks I will try that, then I guess the times I got it to work I probably just opened up the options menu without knowing it. Thanks you02:01
fixItAlso is the guy who makes the statically linked linux builds active at all anymore?02:02
GeofftheMedionop02:02
GeofftheMediono02:02
fixItHmm okay I am planning on setting up linux for myself in a week or two once I get another hd. I am willing to try and give making the statically linked linux build myself at some point, but am not exactly linux competent so was hoping I could get some directions02:04
GeofftheMedioreportedly it was quite complicated02:04
GeofftheMedioI don't think you'll have much luck contacting kdroddn (the guy who was doing the static builds)02:05
fixItI guess I'll have a challenge to look forward to then. Okay well I'll send him a message then with no expectations...and start reading my general linux and linux programming book lol02:07

metulburrim trying to run freeorion/freeorion and nothing happens10:30
GeofftheMediodescribe "trying to run" ?10:31
GeofftheMediowhat os, what version, run how?10:31
metulburrXubuntu10:31
metulburrdownloaded / attempted to install10:31
GeofftheMediodownloaded what?10:31
metulburrthe source from sourceforge10:32
GeofftheMediodid you then compile the source?10:32
metulburroh wait a minute its not the source code10:33
metulburrhttp://sourceforge.net/projects/freeorion/files/FreeOrion/FreeOrion%20Version%200.3.15/10:33
tpb<http://ln-s.net/7l9:> (at sourceforge.net)10:33
metulburri donwloaded the tarball10:33
GeofftheMediowhat filename?10:33
metulburrFreeOrion-0.3.15-Linux-i386.tar.gz10:34
metulburrits the newest for linux on sourceforge10:35
metulburris this the correct one?10:35
GeofftheMedioyes10:35
GeofftheMedioit's somewhat old though10:35
GeofftheMediothere might be problems running on up-to-date linux10:35
metulburrhmm10:36
GeofftheMediohttp://freeorion.psitronic.de/README.txt10:37
GeofftheMediohave a look at that10:37
GeofftheMedioif it doesn't work, I probably can't help10:38
metulburryeah i read that over and over when trying to install10:38
GeofftheMediowhat happens when you attempt to follow those insructions?10:38
metulburrit installs but /usr/local/games/freeorion/freeorion does not run at all10:40
GeofftheMedioelaborate?10:40
metulburrran setup script, and said it installed properly, but when I tried to run the executable it does nothing10:41
GeofftheMediodefine "does nothing" ?10:41
metulburrclick on it, sit wait, sit wait, sit wait, wait wait wait sit wait10:42
metulburrnothing10:42
GeofftheMediotry running from the command line10:42
GeofftheMediosee if there's some output10:42
GeofftheMediomight be helpful10:42
metulburrstill nothing already tried that10:42
GeofftheMedio"nothing" isn't specific.  does it return you to the command line, or leave the console window nonresponsive?10:44
metulburrmetulburr@xubuntu:~/application$ ./freeorion10:46
metulburr./freeorion: error while loading shared libraries: libCg.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory10:46
GeofftheMediosee, that was the kind of output I was asking about...10:46
GeofftheMediolooks like you need to install the nvidia cg library to run that version10:47
GeofftheMediounfortunate, as it's not actually needed to run the game, but apparently it's marked as a dependency in that build10:47
metulburri ahve an ati card10:47
GeofftheMedioshould still be possible to install it10:47
GeofftheMedioas I believe various people have used ATI cards to run that version10:47
metulburri just installed nvidia-cg-toolkit, which is the only nvidia cg found in repo, and after that i got the error: ./freeorion: error while loading shared libraries: libCg.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS6410:51
GeofftheMediono idea... try googling it?10:51
GeofftheMediomight be a 64/32 bit issue10:54
GeofftheMediomy guess is you're on a 64 bit system and installed 64 bit cg toolkit?10:54
GeofftheMediomaybe the binary is expecting 32 bit?10:54
metulburryeah i came across the same idea10:54
metulburris there a way to get the 32 bit binaries for a 64?10:55
GeofftheMediodunno... don't do any linux administration myself10:55
GeofftheMedioIf you're able, it might be a better idea to try building the latest FreeOrion instead10:59
GeofftheMediothere is a cmake build system set up to facilitate this10:59
